TEREZA the book
TEREZA, a unique book by Tereza Maxová and journalist Veronika Bednářová, was officially released in December 2021. Tereza Maxová and journalist Veronika Bednářová TEREZA. Readers can catch a glimpse into the life of one of our most famous top models.
Tereza Maxová herself wished to create something special, not just an autobiographical book. „I didn’t want to publish a typical autobiography, but rather a picture book, a kind of clip art travelogue. So the book will basically be a gift not only for me, but especially for my children”.
The book was not only a lot of work for her, but also a form of psychotherapy. “Going back to memories, sometimes joyful, sometimes painful, was quite therapeutic. All the trips abroad, all the jobs, the political situation of the time, all the gossip, the ups and downs, and above all the emotions are recorded. Occasionally there is a photo, a poem, a ticket…. or a chocolate wrapper. The book is just a short testimony and a vivid document, supplemented by contemporary photographs and commentaries.“
“So many perceptions and memories would cost ten lives,” Tereza describes the experiences from her book.
The publishing house came up with the idea to write the book. “I was approached by BizBooks, a publishing house under Albatros Media, to see if I would like to publish a book. At the beginning there was a lot of enthusiasm, because I had no idea what it meant to go back to the past. The book was written together with me by the excellent journalist Veronika Bednářová. During our first meeting, which took place online, in the shadows, and when Veronika told me that she knew nothing about fashion and models, I immediately knew that this would be it. When Zuzka Lednická from Studio Najbrt came to the team with her creativity, everything was clear,” Maxová explained the reasons why she finally started writing.
Veronika Bednářová, a Czech journalist and author of many interviews with extraordinary people, says: “It is not a comprehensive autobiography, but an adventurous journey of one of the world’s most famous top models to freedom. It culminates with the story of the foundation for abandoned and disadvantaged children, which bears her name and this year celebrates a quarter of a century of existence. In addition, many of her loved ones, such as her mother Alena, husband Burak, Prince Albert, Eva Herzigová and Bryan Adams, have all contributed to the book.“
The cover of the book is adorned with the iconic photograph that was at the birth of her career. “This photo by Mikael Jansson has won many competitions and has great artistic value today, so I hope people will like it.”
Although there was a lot of material, Tereza has no plans to create another book. “It’s just a short testimony and a vivid documentary, supplemented by period photographs and commentary. The ten years that I had in my diaries day by day are honestly recorded, but only a few pages are devoted to the last ten years, for example.”
